You can connect your StarDomain account to an AI assistant such as Claude or ChatGPT, then ask about your domains, websites, email, apps, invoices and support tickets in plain language — instead of signing in and clicking through the control panel.
Add https://stardomain.com/mcp as a connector in Claude or ChatGPT, sign in, and choose what it may do. It takes about a minute, costs nothing, and you can disconnect instantly from your client area. Most permissions are view only — and no AI app can ever take a payment, obtain a transfer code, change your nameservers, reveal a password or cancel a service, because those permissions do not exist.
1. What you can ask it
Once connected, you can simply ask questions in your own words:
The assistant reads each answer from your own account, live. Nothing is copied to it in advance, and nothing is stored by us on its behalf.
2. What the assistant can do
What it can see and do depends entirely on the permissions you approve when you connect. You choose them — and you can approve some and refuse others.
| Permission | What the assistant can do | Can it change anything? |
|---|---|---|
| Account | See your services, invoices, renewals and support tickets | No — view only |
| Domains | See your domains, their expiry and their DNS records | No — view only |
| Websites | See your AI Website Builder sites, plan usage and versions | No — view only |
| Services | See your hosting, email accounts, mailboxes and apps | No — view only |
| Support | Open a ticket, and reply to an existing one | Yes |
| Apps | Restart or start an app on the App Platform | Yes |
Support and Apps are the only permissions that let an assistant act. Everything else is strictly read-only, and you can refuse either one and still use the rest.
3. What it can never do
This is worth reading carefully, because it is a hard limit in the system rather than a setting you have to get right. There is no permission for any of the following. It does not exist, so no consent screen can grant it and no app can ask for it.
4. How to connect
The address is always https://stardomain.com/mcp, with no trailing slash and no www. Pick your assistant below.
Sign in to your StarDomain client area in the same browser first. Connecting then goes straight to the permission screen.
Claude (claude.ai and the Claude desktop app)
- Open ConnectorsIn Claude, go to Settings → Connectors.
- Add a custom connectorChoose Add custom connector. Enter the name
StarDomainand the addresshttps://stardomain.com/mcp, then choose Add. - Connect and sign inChoose Connect next to StarDomain. You are sent to the StarDomain sign-in page.
- Choose what it may doReview the permission screen, tick only what you want, and confirm. Back in a chat, turn StarDomain on from the tools menu.
An organisation owner may need to add the connector first under Organization settings → Connectors. Members then connect it from their own Settings.
ChatGPT
- Turn on developer modeIn ChatGPT, go to Settings → Apps (it may say Plugins or Apps & Connectors) → Advanced settings, and turn on Developer mode.
- Create the appChoose Create (or +). Enter the name
StarDomain, the MCP server URLhttps://stardomain.com/mcp, and set Authentication to OAuth. Leave Client ID and Client Secret empty. - Confirm and sign inTick the confirmation box and choose Create. You are sent to the StarDomain sign-in page.
- Choose what it may doReview the permission screen and confirm. In a new chat, choose +, then turn on StarDomain.
The "can make changes" permissions (Support and Apps) are off until you tick them on the permission screen. To add them later, disconnect and connect again.
Claude Code (terminal)
- Add the serverRun
claude mcp add --transport http stardomain https://stardomain.com/mcp - Sign inStart Claude Code, type
/mcp, select stardomain and choose Authenticate. Your browser opens the StarDomain sign-in page. - Choose what it may doApprove the permission screen, then return to the terminal.
Any other assistant
If your assistant supports remote MCP servers with OAuth, add https://stardomain.com/mcp as the server address. It registers itself automatically, so there is no API key or client ID to copy.
5. Reading the permission screen
The permission screen is the most important part, so it is worth knowing what it can tell you and what it cannot.
An app chooses its own name. Anyone can register an app and call it "StarDomain Support" or "ChatGPT". The name on the screen is a claim, not proof. What we can verify is where the app sends you back to. If that return address is a platform we recognise — claude.ai or chatgpt.com — we identify the app by that platform and show its chosen name separately, as a claim. If we do not recognise the address, the app is marked unverified.
If a permission request appears when you did not just start one yourself, deny it. Even a recognised return address only proves the request reaches some account on that platform — which could be someone else's. That is exactly why the permissions stay narrow, and why nothing that moves money or control is available at all.
6. Managing and disconnecting
You are always in control, and you never need to contact us to withdraw access. Everything lives on the Connected apps page in your client area, where you can see every app connected to your account, exactly what each one was allowed to do, where it signs in from, and disconnect any of them instantly.
| How long access lasts | What happens |
|---|---|
| Access key | Valid for 1 hour, then renewed automatically in the background |
| Renewal | Possible for 30 days from last use |
| Unused for 30 days | The connection lapses on its own, and the app must ask again |
| You press Disconnect | Access stops immediately |
7. Security, in brief
8. Troubleshooting
| Problem | What to do |
|---|---|
| The assistant cannot find the service | Check the address is exactly https://stardomain.com/mcp — no trailing slash, no www |
| You sign in, but nothing happens afterwards | Your browser may be blocking the return. Try again in a normal (non-private) window and allow the redirect back |
| The assistant says it is not allowed to do something | Check Connected apps to see what was approved. Anything involving payments, transfer codes, nameservers, contacts, passwords or cancellations is permanently unavailable by design |
| It worked, then stopped | A connection unused for 30 days lapses. Simply connect again |
| A permission request you did not start | Deny it, change your client area password, then check Connected apps and disconnect anything you do not recognise |
Frequently asked questions
Does this cost anything?
No. Connecting your account is included with your services.
Can the assistant spend my money, or renew something without asking?
No. There is no payment permission at all. It can show you an unpaid invoice; it cannot pay it.
Can it delete my website or domain?
No. There is no delete or cancel permission, so the action is not available to any app.
Can it change my nameservers?
No. Nameserver and contact changes are excluded entirely.
Can my staff connect their own assistant?
Only the account owner can create a connection. Every connection is visible to the account under Connected apps.
Does StarDomain see my conversations with the assistant?
No. We only see the requests the app makes to your account, which we log for security in the same way as any other account activity.
What if I change my mind?
Disconnect it on the Connected apps page in your client area. Access stops immediately.
See every AI app connected to your account, what each one may do, and disconnect any of them instantly.
