How to Reset Your cPanel Password
If you've forgotten your cPanel password or need to change it for security reasons, you can reset it quickly through your {{COMPANY_NAME}} client portal. You do not need your current cPanel password to perform a reset.
Method 1: Reset via Client Portal (Recommended)
The easiest way to reset your cPanel password is through the client portal.
Steps
- Log in to your client portal at {{SUPPORT_URL}}
- Navigate to Services then My Services
- Click on your active cPanel hosting service
- Look for the Change Password option in the sidebar or service actions
- Enter your new password (or use the password generator for a strong random password)
- Click Save Changes
- Your new cPanel password is effective immediately
Tip: Use the built-in password generator to create a strong password. Aim for at least 12 characters with a mix of uppercase, lowercase, numbers, and symbols.
Method 2: Use SSO Instead
If you need immediate access and don't want to reset your password, use the SSO (Single Sign-On) method:
- Log in to your client portal
- Go to your cPanel hosting service
- Click Login to cPanel — this logs you in automatically without needing a password
This is a great option when you need quick access but want to reset your password later at your convenience.
Password Requirements
For security, your cPanel password must meet the following criteria:
- Minimum 8 characters (we recommend 12+)
- Include at least one uppercase letter (A-Z)
- Include at least one lowercase letter (a-z)
- Include at least one number (0-9)
- Include at least one special character (!@#$%^&*)
- Cannot be the same as your username
- Should not be a commonly used password
What Gets Affected by a Password Reset
When you reset your cPanel password, the following are updated:
- cPanel login — Your direct URL login credentials
- FTP main account — The primary FTP account uses the same password as cPanel
- SSH access — If you connect via password authentication (key-based auth is unaffected)
What Is NOT Affected
- Additional FTP accounts (they have their own passwords)
- Email account passwords (managed separately)
- MySQL database user passwords (managed separately)
- Your client portal password (separate from cPanel)
What to Do If You Are Locked Out
If you cannot log in to cPanel or the client portal:
- Reset your portal password first using the Forgot Password link on the portal login page
- Once in the portal, reset your cPanel password using Method 1 above
- If you still cannot access the portal, contact {{SUPPORT_EMAIL}} with:
- Your registered email address
- Your domain name
- Proof of account ownership
Security Best Practices
- Change your password every 90 days
- Never share your cPanel credentials via email or chat
- Enable Two-Factor Authentication in cPanel under Security then Two-Factor Authentication
- Use unique passwords — don't reuse passwords from other services
- Use a password manager like Bitwarden or 1Password to store your credentials securely
Troubleshooting
Password Reset Not Working
- Ensure you're entering the new password correctly (check for caps lock)
- Clear your browser cache and try again
- Try a different browser
Account Suspended After Multiple Failed Logins
cPanel temporarily blocks your IP address after multiple failed login attempts (brute-force protection). Wait 15 minutes and try again, or contact support to have your IP unblocked.
