Changing Your Website Theme and Layout
After initial setup, you may want to refresh your site's appearance or reorganize its layout. This guide covers changing themes, modifying layouts, and redesigning sections without losing content.
Changing the Global Theme
Colors
In Site Settings > Theme/Design, modify primary color, accent color, background, and text color. Changes apply instantly across your site.
Fonts
In Typography settings, update heading and body fonts. Adjust base font size and line height. Preview on desktop and mobile.
Dark/Light Mode
Check for a mode toggle under Theme settings if available.
Modifying Page Layouts
- Reorder sections by dragging or using move arrows
- Change column layout within sections (1, 2, 3 columns)
- Adjust spacing with padding and margin controls
- Toggle full-width vs. contained section display
Layout Elements
Add columns, dividers, spacers, and containers to fine-tune your layout.
Redesigning the Header
Choose from header styles: Standard (logo left, menu right), Centered, Hamburger, or Transparent overlay. Customize logo, menu alignment, background, sticky behavior, and height.
Redesigning the Footer
Include company name, quick links, social media icons, contact info, and business hours. Adjust column layout and background color.
Redesigning Key Sections
- Hero: Compelling headline, subheadline, CTA button, background image/video
- Features/Services: 3-4 column grid with icons, titles, and short descriptions
- Testimonials: Customer name, photo, quote, star ratings in carousel format
- Contact: Form, Google Maps embed, phone/email/hours, social links
Responsive Adjustments
After layout changes, always check mobile view. Verify text readability, image sizing, button size, form usability, and navigation.
When to Switch Templates Entirely
Consider it if your business focus changed significantly, the current template cannot support needed layouts, or you want a fundamentally different visual approach. Before switching, copy all text content to a document.
