How to Complete eKYC Verification

How to Complete eKYC Verification

eKYC (electronic Know Your Customer) is a fast, paperless method of verifying your identity for domain registration and other services at {{COMPANY_NAME}}. Instead of manually uploading identity documents and waiting for manual review, eKYC uses Aadhaar-based verification to confirm your identity in real time. This guide explains the eKYC process step by step.

What Is eKYC?

eKYC is a digital identity verification process that uses your Aadhaar number and OTP (One-Time Password) to verify your identity electronically. Key benefits include:

  • Instant verification — No waiting for manual document review
  • No document upload — Your identity is verified directly through the UIDAI (Aadhaar) system
  • Secure — Uses government-issued OTP sent to your Aadhaar-linked mobile number
  • Paperless — Environmentally friendly and convenient

Tip: eKYC is the fastest way to get your .in domain fully verified and active. We strongly recommend it over manual document submission.

Prerequisites

Before starting the eKYC process, ensure you have:

  1. A valid Aadhaar number linked to your account
  2. Access to your Aadhaar-linked mobile number — An OTP will be sent to this number
  3. A {{COMPANY_NAME}} account with an active domain or pending domain registration

Tip: If your mobile number linked to Aadhaar has changed, you will need to update it at your nearest Aadhaar centre before you can use eKYC. Alternatively, you can complete manual KYC by uploading documents.

How to Complete eKYC

Step 1: Navigate to the eKYC Section

  1. Log in to the Client Portal at {{SUPPORT_URL}}/client
  2. Go to Domains and click on the domain that requires verification
  3. Look for the eKYC Verification section or click the Verify Now button
  4. Alternatively, go to Account Settings > Contact Profiles and look for the verification option

Step 2: Enter Your Aadhaar Details

  1. Enter your 12-digit Aadhaar number in the provided field
  2. Verify that the name and details displayed match your records
  3. Click Send OTP

Step 3: Verify with OTP

  1. You will receive a 6-digit OTP on your Aadhaar-linked mobile number
  2. Enter the OTP in the verification field on screen
  3. Click Verify OTP

Tip: The OTP is valid for 10 minutes. If it expires, you can request a new one by clicking Resend OTP.

Step 4: Confirmation

If verification succeeds:

  1. You will see a "Verification Successful" message
  2. Your contact profile will be marked as eKYC Verified
  3. All domains using this contact profile will automatically be marked as verified
  4. You will receive a confirmation email

eKYC for Domain Registration

When registering a new .in domain, eKYC integrates seamlessly into the process:

  1. During checkout, you will be prompted to create or select a Contact Profile
  2. If the contact profile is not yet verified, you will see an eKYC Verification option
  3. Complete the Aadhaar OTP verification as described above
  4. Once verified, the domain registration proceeds automatically
  5. The domain will be registered in Active status (no pending verification)

Managing Contact Profiles with eKYC

Once a contact profile is eKYC-verified, it can be reused across multiple domains:

  1. Go to Account Settings > Contact Profiles
  2. Your verified profiles will show a green verified badge
  3. When registering new domains, select a verified contact profile to skip the KYC step entirely
  4. You can create multiple contact profiles (e.g., one for personal domains, one for business domains)

Tip: If you manage domains for a business, create a separate contact profile with the organizations details and verify it separately.

Important Notes

  • eKYC verification is linked to your Contact Profile, not individual domains. Once verified, all domains using that profile are automatically covered.
  • Your Aadhaar information is used solely for identity verification and is not stored on our systems beyond what the registry requires.
  • eKYC is currently available for .in domain registrations. Other TLDs may use ICANN email verification instead.
  • If eKYC fails repeatedly, you can always fall back to manual document upload.

Troubleshooting

  • OTP not received? Ensure your mobile number is correctly linked to your Aadhaar. Check if your phone has signal. Try again after 2 minutes.
  • "Aadhaar number not found" error? Double-check the 12-digit number. Ensure there are no typos or extra spaces.
  • Name mismatch between Aadhaar and account? Your {{COMPANY_NAME}} contact profile name must match your Aadhaar name. Update your contact profile to match.
  • eKYC verification failed? This can happen due to temporary UIDAI system issues. Wait 30 minutes and try again. If it continues to fail, use manual KYC as a fallback.
  • Already verified but domain still showing pending? Ensure the domain is linked to the correct (verified) contact profile. If the issue persists, contact support.
