Getting Started with Reseller Hosting

Getting Started with Reseller Hosting

Welcome to {{COMPANY_NAME}} Reseller Hosting! This guide walks you through everything you need to know to start your own web hosting business using our reseller platform.

What is Reseller Hosting?

Reseller hosting allows you to purchase hosting resources in bulk from {{COMPANY_NAME}} and redistribute them to your own clients under your own brand. You get access to WHM (Web Host Manager) — a powerful administrative panel that lets you create, manage, and monitor individual cPanel accounts for each of your customers.

What You Get

When you sign up for a reseller hosting plan, you receive:

  • WHM Access — Full administrative control over your hosting environment
  • cPanel Accounts — Ability to create individual cPanel accounts for each client
  • Resource Allocation — Disk space, bandwidth, and other resources to distribute among your clients
  • White-Label Branding — Option to set up private nameservers and custom branding
  • Billing Integration — Compatible with WHMCS and other billing platforms

Step 1: Access Your WHM Panel

After your reseller account is activated, you can access WHM in two ways:

  1. Log in to your {{COMPANY_NAME}} client portal
  2. Navigate to Services > My Services
  3. Click on your reseller hosting plan
  4. Click the Login to WHM button for single sign-on access

Via Direct URL

You can also access WHM directly at:

https://your-server-hostname:2087

Use the username and password provided in your welcome email.

Step 2: Create Your First Hosting Package

Before you can add clients, you need to create at least one hosting package that defines the resources each client will receive. In WHM:

  1. Go to Packages > Add a Package
  2. Set resource limits (disk space, bandwidth, email accounts, databases, etc.)
  3. Choose which cPanel features to enable for this package
  4. Save the package

We recommend creating 2-3 packages (e.g., Basic, Business, Premium) to offer tiered pricing to your clients.

Step 3: Create Your First Client Account

Once you have a package ready:

  1. Go to Account Functions > Create a New Account
  2. Enter the client's domain name
  3. Choose a username and password
  4. Select the hosting package you created
  5. Click Create to provision the account

Your client will now be able to log in to their own cPanel and manage their website independently.

Step 4: Set Up Private Nameservers (Optional)

For a professional look, set up private nameservers so your clients see your brand instead of {{COMPANY_NAME}}'s default nameservers. See our detailed guide on Setting Up Private Nameservers.

Step 5: Configure Billing

To automate billing for your clients, consider integrating with WHMCS or another billing platform. This allows you to:

  • Automatically provision new accounts when a client pays
  • Send invoices and payment reminders
  • Handle plan upgrades and downgrades
  • Manage cancellations and suspensions

Tips for Success

  • Start Small — Begin with 2-3 hosting packages and expand as demand grows
  • Monitor Resources — Regularly check WHM's resource usage to avoid overselling
  • Provide Support — Your clients will look to you for help, so familiarize yourself with cPanel basics
  • Back Up Regularly — Set up automated backups to protect your clients' data
  • Keep Software Updated — Ensure all accounts have the latest PHP versions and security patches
