How to Reset Your DirectAdmin Password

The quickest way to reset your DirectAdmin password is through the client portal.

Steps

  1. Log in to your client portal at {{SUPPORT_URL}}
  2. Navigate to Services then My Services
  3. Click on your DirectAdmin hosting service
  4. Click Change Password in the service actions
  5. Enter a new password or click the generator to create a strong one
  6. Click Save Changes
  7. The new password takes effect immediately

Tip: Always use the password generator for maximum security. A strong password should be at least 12 characters with mixed case, numbers, and symbols.

Method 2: Change Password Inside DirectAdmin

If you are already logged in to DirectAdmin and want to change your password:

  1. Click your username in the top-right corner of DirectAdmin
  2. Select Password
  3. Enter your current password
  4. Enter your new password twice
  5. Click Save

Method 3: Use SSO to Bypass Password

If you just need access and don't want to reset the password right now:

  1. Log in to your client portal at {{SUPPORT_URL}}
  2. Go to your DirectAdmin service
  3. Click Login to DirectAdmin — SSO logs you in without needing a password

What Changes When You Reset

Resetting your DirectAdmin password affects:

  • DirectAdmin panel login — Updated immediately
  • Main FTP account — Uses the same credentials as DirectAdmin
  • SSH access — If using password authentication (SSH keys are unaffected)

What Does NOT Change

  • Additional FTP account passwords
  • Email account passwords
  • Database user passwords
  • Client portal password

Locked Out Completely?

If you cannot access the client portal either:

  1. Use the Forgot Password link on the portal login page
  2. Check your email for the password reset link
  3. Reset your portal password first, then reset DirectAdmin password from the portal

Password Requirements

Your DirectAdmin password must meet these security standards:

  • Minimum 8 characters (12+ recommended)
  • At least one uppercase letter
  • At least one lowercase letter
  • At least one number
  • At least one special character
