Updating WHOIS Contact Info
WHOIS records contain the contact information associated with your domain registration. Keeping this information accurate is important for domain ownership verification, legal compliance, and receiving critical notifications about your domain.
Understanding WHOIS Contacts
Every domain registration has four contact types:
Registrant Contact
The legal owner of the domain. This is the most important contact and determines domain ownership.
Administrative Contact
The person authorized to manage the domain on behalf of the registrant. They can approve transfers and make changes.
Technical Contact
The person or team responsible for DNS and server configuration.
Billing Contact
The person responsible for domain renewal payments and billing inquiries.

Tip: You can update contacts individually or apply the same contact to all four types using the "Copy to all" option.
Important Considerations
Registrant Change Policy
Changing the registrant name or organization is considered a Change of Registrant under ICANN rules. This may:
- Require confirmation from both the old and new registrant via email
- Trigger a 60-day transfer lock on the domain (for some TLDs)
- Require identity verification in some cases
Email Verification
After updating the registrant email address:
- A verification email will be sent to the new email address
- You must click the verification link within 15 days
- Failure to verify may result in domain suspension (per ICANN rules)
Tip: Always ensure your registrant email is an address you actively monitor. Critical domain notifications are sent to this address.
Country-Specific Requirements
- .in domains: Contact updates must comply with NIXI (National Internet Exchange of India) policies. eKYC verification may be required.
- .uk domains: Registrant changes may require IPS tag updates.
- .au domains: Require an eligible Australian entity as registrant.
Bulk WHOIS Updates
If you need to update contact information across multiple domains:
- Go to Domains > My Domains
- Select multiple domains using the checkboxes
- Click Bulk Actions > Update Contact Info
- Fill in the contact details and apply
Troubleshooting
- Changes not reflecting in WHOIS: WHOIS databases may take up to 24 hours to update. Also check if WHOIS privacy is enabled, which masks the underlying data.
- Verification email not received: Check spam/junk folders. Request a resend from the domain management page.
- Domain suspended after update: Likely due to unverified email. Complete the email verification to restore the domain.
- Cannot change registrant: Some TLDs or domain statuses restrict changes. Contact support if the option is greyed out.
